Question about writing

I am working on a novel right now and am at a difficult point. I don't now if I should combine two seperate stories into one or if it would be better to write them seperatly. One is about an elf princess and the other is about her child. the one about the child will include little bits about the elf princess, and the one about the elf princesses story will be about the inseption of the child.
Please help me figure this one out.
